Mini Bite of the Apple

I seem to be in a munchies faze at the moment. Maybe it’s all the foodporn that’s been going through my feed on Pinterest and Instagram. Or maybe it’s been a little more than a week since I have gone to a new place to eat. I get bored pretty easily from eating at the same places. Which is why my boyfriend and I have a “Mini Adventure” at least once a week. It isn’t anything crazy, we just search through the Yelp App for someplace new to eat depending on our cravings.

Living in a city like New York makes it hard to be bored, especially when it comes to food. I told myself that when I moved here I wouldn’t be like some people and take that for granted. This city is too amazing not to explore every inch of it.

Here’s a sample of a few of the adventures we’ve gone on so far…

While writing this post, I’ve come to the decision to start bringing you guys along on our “Mini Adventures” around the city. I’d love to share with you the restaurants, bars, clubs, or food carts that we stumble upon. Not to mention, let people see that you don’t have to have a lot of money to enjoy the city. Sometimes it’s the simplest of things that bring about the best memories.

Miami, It’s Been Fun

So like I promised here are a few shots I got while home in Miami. Just a quick warning, these were all done on my phone at very random times. So they ┬ámay not be the best shots, but you get the essence of what I’m trying to capture at the time. Nothing but blue skies and a chill vibe. And the endless beach of course!

Sorry if most of the shots are at the beach. It’s just that I can’t help but go to the beach every time I’m back home. The beach is my place of solace. Something about the sound of the ocean, surrounded by cool blue water, and the rhythmic waves always puts me a trance. It was a lovely getaway, but it’s time to head back to work and back to the New York grind.

See you back in New York,

On the Beaten Path

Last we spoke I told you that I was boarding a plane to Jamaica, well I’m finally back now and have quite a few photos. I wasn’t sure if I should post them all into one post or break them up. I eventually came to the decision of just posting the main ones that best summed up my trip, rather than have a lot of duplicates on there. I will warn you ahead of time that a majority of my photos are of nature because that’s what the country side mainly consists of.

I guess because I’ve lived in major cities so long, I find natural landscapes/greenery as one of the best ways to relax and easiest ways to escape. So you could only imagine my state of euphoria being in the lush country side of Jamaica. I loved it so much I chose to stay in the country for my entire trip. I thought to myself, I can always find a cruise to Jamaica later and stay at one of the resorts or something on Groupon.

This restaurant/bar has some of the best jerk that I have ever tasted. I literally wanted everything jerked after my first taste. And never mind the calories, I’m on holiday and since I don’t know when I’ll get a chance to come back I wanted to taste everything. Kind of felt like I was Anthony Bourdain from No Reservations for a bit. He’s one of my favourite chefs/world travelers and one of the reasons why I like to explore every aspect of the places I visit. Not just the usual spots, but the ones that are least visited. You never know what you can find there.

Quite a few people I know would have only visited the country for maybe a day and would have much preferred staying in town or the resort areas. Think about it, you went from having running water to water only running on certain days. Meaning you had to store water and make sure it lasted for the whole week. I had no problem with that, if anything it gave me even more of an excuse to bath in the river. Which is by far one of the most invigorating things that I have ever done. Don’t get me wrong, when it comes to nudity I considered myself moderately conservative, but I had little to no shame when it came to bathing in the beautiful rivers and lagoons.

All in all, I had an amazing time in Jamaica meeting the rest of my family, exploring the country, and emerging myself in my culture and it’s laid back way of life. And by the way, it’s so true what try say, everything is just so much more carefree and less stressful in the islands. They rarely let their problems get the best of them, which something that I want to continue to live by now that I’m back.

Nonetheless, I hope you guys go on many adventures and never be too afraid to take the path less traveled.

Until the next adventure,

Kay W

And We’re Off…Again

;

Last weekend I went to Atlanta, GA with one of my closest friends and it was a blast. We went to see her favourite artist St. Vincent. The show was mesmerizing to say the least. I’ve heard a few of her songs from my friend and even have a few on my iPod, but nothing prepared me for the show that I saw. From beginning to the end the crowd was utterly spellbound. So much so that they demanded an encore even after the encore. She’s definitely an act to see, everything from her impromptu conversations with the audience to her extreme crowd surfing will leave you wanting more. I’ll post a few more pics when I get the chance next week.

;

As I’m typing this, I’m actually packing and running a few last minute errands before I drive down to Ft. Lauderdale for my flight to Jamaica tomorrow morning. I had a feeling I wouldn’t be getting any sleep for the next 48hrs, but quite frankly I’m way too excited to even think of sleeping. I’ve been packing and unpacking like a maniac. My biggest fear is forgetting something, so I rather over stress it than brush it off.

You see I haven’t been back to Jamaica since I left at the age of 4 and have been wanting to return for quite some time now. I’ve only been told stories and seen pictures from close relatives, but now I finally get a chance to see it for myself again!

;

Most people are only familiar with the resort side of the island, but I know it a little differently. We’ll be staying at a resort for part of the trip and in the country for the other. I can’t wait to experience it for all that it truly is.

As you know, I’ll be taking millions of pics and can’t wait to share them with you. Hopefully, there’s wifi and I can share them sooner rather than later. If not, then I’ll just have to do a massive post when I return.

Till next time,

Kay
